Welcome to the New USSR (or East Berlin)
Wow, they just keep whittling away at them don't they? I'm talking about the civil liberties that our forefathers fought so hard for. Oh, you want examples? Here you go...
  • The Patriot Act
  • Secret Military Tribunals
  • Attacks on Freedom of the Press (including BLOGs!)
  • Random Searches of Everyday Commuters
I could go on for quite a while. The last one is the latest... random searches of everyday commuters. God bless SEPTA on this one, they refuse to do it. However, New York, New Jersey, and Washington DC are. Don't they realize that for every officer they have checking bags, that's one less officer they have "on the beat" and checking out tips?

As a former SEPTA commuter for 10 years, I find this very offensive. Sure, I usually only had a lunch, some books, and a laptop in my backpack. However, sometimes I'd be bringing home some purchases from the Pleasure Chest. I really wouldn't want my new toys being put on display while I'm surrounded by people I ride the train with every day! I'm sure some women would be uncomfortable having their personal feminine items on display too.

All this in the name of The War on Terrorism. Paraphrasing one of our forefathers, Benjamin Franklin...

"Those that would trade liberty for security, deserve neither liberty nor security."

ICE Might Save Your Life
I first heard about ICE on NBC10 news a few nights ago and now I found the following web article: ICE Might Save Your Life

I think this is a hell of a good idea. ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. Basically, you create an entry in your cellphone address book like the following:

ICE Michele (wife) 609-555-1234

Now if you are incapacitated and a rescue worker has to contact someone, they can look for the ICE entry in your cellphone address book.

Naturally there have been rumors saying that ICE entries can leave your phone open to hacks but Snopes has put those rumors to rest.

So what are you waiting for? Add an ICE entry to your cellphone's address book; it just may save your life.

Scotty's Dead
"Star Trek" Star James Doohan Dies

That's a major bummer!

I've been a Trek fan for as long as I can remember. I've seen all the original episodes, all the cartoon episodes, all the TNG, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise episodes. I've even been to a convention or two.

Anyway, "Scotty" was 85 when he died today. The magnificent 7 are now down to 5.

Damn this makes me feel old. All the adults I knew as a child are now moving on. It's scary knowing there are fewer years ahead of you than behind you.

Help, I'm Blind !!!
And I thought things at the pool were bad. Today I'm on the beach and this family sets up in front of us. The woman is wearing some type of halter shirt and one of those wrap skirts. After the man takes the two kids to the ocean, the woman proceeds to take off her shirt and skirt. What is she wearing? A bikini, and ewwww! Hey lady, you're too big for a bikini, WAY to big!

Thank god there were plenty of college coeds around to overlay that horrific image that was seared into my brain.

Other than that, I love the shore... Ocean City, NJ. The beach, the boardwalk, the food, the hot chicks, etc. Does Michele mind? Hell no! She usually points them out to me. Of course I return the favor and point out the ripped guys to her. This is what happens after 18 years of marriage, you feel comfortable enough in your relationship with each other to do this. In addition to being a wife, she's a really cool friend. Luv ya Mic!

Gotta go now, there a pile of boardwalk peanuts on the table calling to me.

More Roadway Idiots
As I'm driving down I95 this morning heading towards the Blue Route, I notice wisps appearing on the roadway all around me. That's strange I say to myself, it's not hot out and it hasn't rained (after a rainstorm on a hot day, the road sometimes steams). I don't think much more about it until I'm almost on the Blue Route when I see in front of me... a pickup truck loaded with very fine, very dry dirt. The wind at 65 mph is just lifting this stuff right out of his bed. Can't he see the smoke screen he's creating in his rear-view mirror? IDIOT!!!

Next, I'm on the Blue Route almost to the Schuylkill Expressway. I say to myself, "What is this black shit hitting my car?" As I drive a little farther, I see a huge dump truck with no cover on it in front of me. Blowing out of the truck is some type of ash or soot. Aren't these trucks supposed to be covered to prevent this? IDIOT!!!

Now I'm in the final stretch to work heading down 202. Like a big snow storm, there's this fuzzy stuff flying around everywhere. "What the hell is this?", I ask myself. Teddy Bear stuffing! That's right folks, it was a truck with Teddy Bears all over it (real ones, not painted). Again the driver didn't secure his cargo and as he drove down 202 with the rest of us, he created a "snow storm" of stuffing for us to drive through. IDIOT!!!

All this inside a 40 minute period this morning! Why are people such idiots? When I drive, I tie the mattress down to the car, I don't hold it with my hand. I put stuff in sealed containers when I travel. I close my trunk or hatchback to keep the stuff I'm transporting in my possession. This isn't difficult or expensive to do. It helps prevents accidents and it's always a good thing.

Where are the cops when you need them?
