Welcome to the New USSR (or East Berlin)
Wow, they just keep whittling away at them don't they? I'm talking about the civil liberties that our forefathers fought so hard for. Oh, you want examples? Here you go...
  • The Patriot Act
  • Secret Military Tribunals
  • Attacks on Freedom of the Press (including BLOGs!)
  • Random Searches of Everyday Commuters
I could go on for quite a while. The last one is the latest... random searches of everyday commuters. God bless SEPTA on this one, they refuse to do it. However, New York, New Jersey, and Washington DC are. Don't they realize that for every officer they have checking bags, that's one less officer they have "on the beat" and checking out tips?

As a former SEPTA commuter for 10 years, I find this very offensive. Sure, I usually only had a lunch, some books, and a laptop in my backpack. However, sometimes I'd be bringing home some purchases from the Pleasure Chest. I really wouldn't want my new toys being put on display while I'm surrounded by people I ride the train with every day! I'm sure some women would be uncomfortable having their personal feminine items on display too.

All this in the name of The War on Terrorism. Paraphrasing one of our forefathers, Benjamin Franklin...

"Those that would trade liberty for security, deserve neither liberty nor security."

I agree with you on this, however how is this different than the racial profiling i go through everytime i'm at the airport. As a brown male, my bags are always checked. I feel like white America is waking up since it is finally affecting them.

I'm happily married to my high-school sweetheart and have two sons. I love relaxing down the Jersey Shore. I also enjoy sitting by the pool after dinner, talking to the wife, watching the kids, and smoking a cigar.
