VUE Day is Over

So what did I do at work today? I was an actor!

VUE is a method of managing projects that my employer has implemented company wide. My previous employer was small (~24 employees) and we could blow out a project in days or weeks. My new employer is huge (11000+ employees) and projects take months or years to roll out because of this VUE process and the number of people these projects can affect.

Anyway, VUE day is where the Web Services group (my group) puts on a show for senior management of how we use VUE to roll out our web projects. An area of the building was set up like a trade show with booths that our visitors visited. Various people from the different departments explained what each department does.

Today I worked with the Usability department where I posed as an off the street person brought in to evaluate web sites. I was even given a script! Basically I got paid to pretend to surf the web! However, this is important stuff because in real life my company grabs people off the street and pays them $100 to critique our website for about an hour. They really do take these comments seriously and tweak the web site accordingly.

Was today a waste? I honestly can't say yes. I really did learn a little bit more about the group I'm in and the company I work for.

Ah, corporate life!
